You Are My Home -
(Only you don't know it yet)

-Sahil Singh

I had lost my coordinates to reach

My home — that is until I found you.

The city of djinns was large —

Imposing, boisterous, houses and concrete,

Monuments covering the skies —

Sans belonging, sans a place where I

Could stay, sans hope of finding one —

Until I found you.

You wouldn’t know, ever …

How every night, on my way back

From college, I would carry your words

Those little syllables you would speak to me

Throughout the day — a handful of them,

And place them succinctly beside my

Bed. Everyday. Until I built a wall one day.

A month later four walls were complete.

Your words, and laughter all stuck together,

Weaved with that long hair of yours that

Had once stuck on my shirt’s button, and

You had laughed pulling it off, your eyes

Shining, a little of that shine I have hung

On my walls as light. They twinkle

At night. I have designed a terrace too, of

Glass, with the moistness of your

First kiss. Only you don’t know, how

The little droplets of love that you drench

Me in — sometimes — I find a home

In them, I build one out. And I live there.

There my tears flow freely. Would you —

Live in it — ? Or maybe — We could

Build a home together one day — …

We could belong, forever, growing

Like trees.

—Tell me ?
